Multiple entry within 30 days

I am initially transiting through Hanoi to China but will stay at a hotel that night so need to exit the airport. On the return I am spending a couple of days in Hanoi. I know I can have visa free access but only 1 entry per 30 days. I have two. Do I need to apply for a visa for the second visit?
