Do I understand well that it is much cheaper to get "visa on arrival" for which people apply online and receive it directly at the Vietnamese airport then if people enter Vietnam by land and have to go to an Embassy to request the visa?

Kindly noted that Visa on arrival is only applicable for air travel . If you enter Vietnam via land border crossing, please apply for an evisa.
Due to your nationality, it is not available for evisa online. Please contact to Viet nam Embassy to get this visa kind
