With Spanish passport holder, you do not need to apply visa if you stay in Viet Nam less than 15days.Your passport must be at least 6 months validity upon the date of arrival. Moreover, your coming arrival date is not within 30days from your last exit date with visa exemption.

In this case, we would like to advise you to ask the airline staff whether they allow him to board the plane with the passport's validity is less than 6 months or not. So for your first trip to Hanoi on Oct/05/2016, if you haven't been to Vietnam before and just stay under 2 weeks, you do not need to get visa.
