Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City among Asia’s most affordable travel destinations

To determine the most affordable destinations, experts from the magazine analyzed average round-trip economy class airfare and standard double room rates from June to December, using data compiled by the online travel platform Kayak.

According to the list, Ho Chi Minh City ranks second with an average trip cost of about $1,452. Travel+Leisure note that direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City to San Francisco help tourists save significantly on costs, with round-trip airfares around $660. Additionally, food and accommodation prices in Ho Chi Minh City are very affordable, making it an ideal destination for budget-conscious travellers.

Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, ranks ninth with a total trip cost of around $1,546. The author praises Vietnam for its good, cheap food and excellent public transport. Accommodation, ranging from budget to luxury, is cheaper than the regional average. Previously, Tripadvisor also announced a list of 15 cities with the most attractive cuisine in the world, with Hanoi being the only representative from Vietnam.

Travel+Leisure considers Viet Nam to likely be “the lowest-cost country for travellers” in all of Southeast Asia.
